Pet's Diabetes Mellitus Symptoms

Pet can show a variety of signs that indicate diabetes mellitus. Unfortunately, these symptoms can also indicate the presence of another disorder, so be sure to consult your vet if you notice any sign of diabetes . The most common symptoms of diabetes include the following:

One or more of the above symptoms may occur in diabetic pet, but even pet with no symptoms can still have a health problem. For this reason, your dog should visit the vet for a wellness exam at least once or twice a year.

Each of these signs is a result of high levels of glucose in your pet's blood. Your veterinarian will make a diagnosis by testing for extra blood glucose, urine glucose or HbA1c . You can't perform those tests yourself, but you can keep an eye out for the signs and bring them to your veterinarian's attention.
